    It’s all about PR, folks…

They’re selling feces and telling everyone that it’s gold. And people believe them.

Perceived Reality is more important than Authentic Reality.

  • 2 anonymous // Sep 11, 2007 at 9:27 am

Correct - a pure PR piece. No heart or soul. The Kol Hillel has always been a multi-page publication. The new layout is clear and readable, the content must be improved. How about recognizing the long standing teachers and touting their accomplishments such as - Coach Kaplan (32 Years), Mrs. Silverman, Rabbi Kaplan, etc. Why not recognize these individuals who have been the lifeblood of the school! The teachers should be getting the spotlight if they want PR for the school. Each day there are more and more articles validating the research that veteran teachers are in high demand for their proven methods and skills. We are fortunate to have so many of those at our school! Let’s have an expose on them!

Shana Tova - May we all have a good year!

  • 3 Anonymous // Sep 11, 2007 at 12:42 pm

Didn’t they profile Mr. C? And the chefs? If I believe if they want good PR, they need to profile what the students are doing. That’s what the parents want to see. In turn then the teachers should get the credit for helping the students excel.

  • 4 Anonymous // Sep 11, 2007 at 4:17 pm

Kudos to Mr. C. Well deserved.

“Doctor” Holden claims that enrollment is up. Who has the numbers?

  • 5 Anon // Sep 11, 2007 at 4:31 pm

theyre not going to give the numbers to you. you know the drill-it’s all PR and marketing.

if there were really numbers, they’d have been posted. they arent posted because giving a rough estimate is better than saying something that a stealthy reporter can dispute.

in other words,i find it hard to believe that enrollment is up. is anyone else with me?

  • 6 Anonymous // Sep 11, 2007 at 6:28 pm

Enrollment is up in the same way Adam Holden is a “doctor” if you catch my drift

Black is white. White is black.

    2+2 = 5.

That new SPARK club that teaches the kids CHESED…maybe the adults should practice it towards teachers first…would be a bit less hypocritcal, no?

All is well in OCEANIA on 9/11.

    911.

    Mr. C is fab!

  • 8 Anonymous // Sep 15, 2007 at 8:47 pm

Yes. Mr. C. is fab fab fab!

I find it so funny that Rabbi Druin actually threatened us about this blog and thinks teachers actually believe him when he states he can investigate and trace who is posting outside of school.. too funny

    Come find me Rabbi Druin.

  • 9 sad parent // Sep 16, 2007 at 8:01 am

#8: when did Rabbi Druin threaten teachers about posting to this blog?

  • 10 Anonymous // Sep 16, 2007 at 12:58 pm

Last week . Right before chag

  • 11 Anonymous // Sep 16, 2007 at 1:01 pm

To the elementary school faculty…very inspiring way to head into the New Year.

    Shana Tova everyone.

  • 12 Ivory // Sep 16, 2007 at 4:04 pm

    Sigh…

  • 13 Anon // Sep 16, 2007 at 5:01 pm

Calling on all Chabad Rabbis. If you all are so interested in Hillel Community Day School and involving yourselves on the board and also telling parents how to vote on election night, then really support our school and send your own children to Hillel!!

  • 14 Anonymous // Sep 16, 2007 at 5:58 pm

It’s hard to understand how Rabbi Lipszyc or Rabbi Lipskar would support the type of disrepectful behavior that Rabbi Druin exhibits towards teachers. Clearly, they are not aware that some administrators are two-faced. And, they would never send their children to Hillel. Their children would never be allowed to rub elbows and mix with Hillel kids..that would be tantamount to Avoda Zara. Yet they endorse a school they would never deign to send their own children too. How sincere an endorsement can that be?

A message to Rabbi Druin: Your lack of derech eretz for teachers is truly appalling. The Day of Judgment is around the corner. At some point in life–perhaps not this year or the next– what goes around comes back around.

  • 15 Anon // Sep 16, 2007 at 6:05 pm

is this about the after-school ice cream party where druin lectured the teachers?

  • 16 Anonymous // Sep 16, 2007 at 7:17 pm

Maybe he didn’t like the flavors that were served??

  • 17 Anonymous // Sep 16, 2007 at 7:18 pm

it’s time to serve up some new flavors

  • 18 Jeremiah // Sep 16, 2007 at 10:09 pm

FYI chocolate, rum raisin, black cherry, black raspberry should have been served…

    Along with toasted ethics…

  • 19 Marc Mermelstein // Sep 16, 2007 at 10:16 pm

Maybe if it had been catered by Baskin and Robbins, he’d have had a choice of 39 flavours? Oh wait, that’s not cholov yisroel and you’re not a Jew if you don’t eat chabad schita and cholov yisroel. It smacks of the joke about when moshiach comes and the righteous eat that meal served by God, they ask who’s schita it is and the chasid says he’ll stick to the fish when told it’s God’s schita.

However, do we really expect anything different? Why should a school administration not take it’s cues from the country’s administration? Or did Karl Rove not start working at Hillel?

  • 20 anonymous // Sep 16, 2007 at 11:05 pm

It is such a shame that the board continues to allow such disrespect to our beloved teachers. Turning their heads and wearing blinders are very unbecoming to such executives. It is these very actions that lead to the downfall of many.

Teachers are the lifeblood of our school. So many of the parents kept their children in the school this reason and this reason only. If the teachers leave - - so will the students - - as proven veteran teachers are very difficult to replace. The research speaks for itself.

The board cannot continue allow these actions. It is NOT in their best interest or the best interest of our school. Not only is this information on the internet but it will continue to pop up in Jewish publications.

The teachers should not be forced to remain silent when continued atrocities take place. That is why the holocaust lasted so long - - too much silence and too many who did not wish to become involved.

However, in our case, those who want to be involved must be hand - picked, approved, and appointed by the current crooked board. It is a shonda that this type of behavior continues. Rabbi Druin - - SHAME ON YOU. Remember just because you are a Rabbi does not mean you are not judged! The MAN upstairs is taking very detailed notes - - hope you attended Tashlich and continue to repent for your sins. You should make it a point to go to each and every teacher to specifically ask forgivenss for such sins. Dr. Holden: How can a man of your stature and integrity (or shall we say lack there-of - continue to allow such unprofessional behaviour?) …Or is this the mentoring you are providing the other administrators?

Again, appealling to all of those who read this blog - - it is for the benefit our of children and their fantastic teachers we continue to move forward in hope that appropriate changes can and will be made before it is too late.

We must continue to do all we can to SAVE HILLEL!

  • 21 anonymous // Sep 16, 2007 at 11:10 pm

    TO THE TEACHERS…..

We ask you to continue to post anonymously. Do NOT do so from the school — do so from outside!

Continue to inform us of the unconscionable behaviour and tactics that the administration continues to use to intimidate you.

It is important to let the community know the manner in which you are continuing to be treated. WE ARE LISTENING TO YOU.

We will continue to do all we can to SAVE HILLEL!

  • 22 Anon // Sep 16, 2007 at 11:12 pm

this is kind of annoying. druin doesnt want this website to exist. most of us dont either. We dont want hillel to “need saving” - we just wnat it to be saved.

druin-why dont you and your peers listen to what the ppl say and then maybe they will stop complaining?

wouldnt you like it if there was nothing to talk about? NOTHING AT ALL?

was that meeting even necessary???? the key to solving these problems has been handed to you on a silver platter, and you still needed to buy ice cream to drill the teachers??? YOU ALREADY KNOW THE ANSWER.

but in case you didnt get it the first hundred times:
    1. fix the problems that people complain about
    2. profit

  • 23 anonymous // Sep 16, 2007 at 11:22 pm

    Well said!!!
If teachers are treated with the respect they deserve and appropriate planning/break time would be provided to assist the teachers in being successful (as all other schools afford their teachers) then maybe the teachers would not have things to continue to complain about.

What happened to the positive speeches provided Rafa Russ at the opening week for teachers and how everyone needs to work together? Already Rabbi Druin felt the undying need to chastize and threaten the staff. Practice what you preach Rabbi! Does the board KNOW?

Stop creating a negative, hostile, intimidating, environment for our teachers. Isn’t it enough that you have created and supported substandard work schedules? Oh, that is right - you don’t have an educational degree so you would not even know where to find the mounds of research supporting the need for planning and break time. Nor would you understand the intrinsic value of veteran teachers.

Perhaps you should obtain this education for yourself before you threaten and attempt to intimidate those whose credentials far surpass yours. These teachers will continue to talk until the problems get addressed and there is absolutely nothing that can be done to change that. We will continue.

So….take the hint. Solve the problems - - then there would not be reason to complain!

    SAVE HILLEL!

  • 24 Anonymous // Sep 17, 2007 at 5:17 am

The problems are soooooooo easy to fix:

    1. Adjust the schedule
    2. Show respect

    So easy.

    DUH!

Why not just fix the problems so this blog can go awayalready?

  • 25 Anonymous // Sep 17, 2007 at 10:21 am

#20 - Please don’t ever equate what is happening inside Hillel with the Holocaust! It’s disgusting and uncalled for.

  • 26 Anonymous // Sep 17, 2007 at 4:25 pm

In defense of #20: The situation of the systematic extermination is not analagous.

However, STANDING BY SILENTLY while others are being mistreated is indeed a lesson of the Holocaust that applies here.

It surprises me that teachers do not stand up more for one another.

“First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
    Then they came for me
and there was no one left
    to speak out for me.”
    –Pastor Martin Niemöller

First they came for Debbie Galitzer,
and I did not speak out because I got along well
    with Chaye Kohl.
Then they came for Rabbi Lefkowitz
and I did not speak out
because I was a General Studies teacher.
Then they came for the Androns
and I did not speak out because no one
    slashed my salary.
Then they made some of my colleagues miserable by not giving them a lunch break
and I did not speak out because I was so happy
    with MY schedule.
    Then they came for me
and there was no one left
    to speak out for me.

  • 28 Anonymous // Sep 17, 2007 at 9:20 pm

Stand up and be counted - Let your voices be heard, we ARE listening!

  • 29 Anonymous // Sep 17, 2007 at 9:54 pm

Yes we are - keep talking, just make sure what you say is 100% fact.

  • 30 Anonymous // Sep 18, 2007 at 5:05 pm

I hope someone is really listening who is inputing to the PTB.

Judy Dach claims “everything” at Hillel is “great”.

Many things at Hillel are great. But not “everything”.

  • 31 Anonymous // Sep 18, 2007 at 6:40 pm

Judy Dach would not know - she is not there! She only knows what she is told - - and that is a skewed view at best - - Perhaps if she asked the teachers directly she would know better - but apparently she does not care.

  • 32 Aaron // Sep 18, 2007 at 6:55 pm

After all this time, why would anyone give anything that JD says any credence?

  • 33 Anonymous // Sep 18, 2007 at 10:36 pm

Based on how she wanted things, she is probably pretty happy how things have worked out. She can ask the teachers too but I bet most would tell her that things are fine.

Those (parents/teachers) that are happy - all the best. Those that aren’t, should leave and look forward and not back.

  • 34 Good Wolf // Sep 18, 2007 at 11:47 pm

It is kind of hard to walk away without a tinge of regret.

  • 35 anonymous // Sep 19, 2007 at 10:36 am

Make no mistake….Hillel is a wonderful school. Your children get an excellent education and it has been this way for many years. There are many successful graduates. The school’s track record speaks for itself regardless of what the “new breed” thinks. They have no roots and just don’t understand.

The issues revolve around the administration of the school and the manner in which the faculty and staff are being treated. Our teachers are second to none - they are the best. As in every school there can always be an outlier.

However, we must work to retain, acknowledge, and reward our veteran teachers as they are our biggest asset.

It is hard to leave and not look back as there is a love in our hearts that exists for the school and its beloved faculty. Hillel is a family and should stay that way!

    SAVE HILLEL!

  • 36 Aaron // Sep 19, 2007 at 12:01 pm

You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.

And you can’t teach a dead dog anything.

  • 37 Anonymous // Sep 19, 2007 at 12:29 pm

Hillel has been going downhill for years. The Administration has been turning over for years and so has many of the faculty in the HS. Even the buildings haven’t been kept up well for lack of funds. They offer tons of AP classes but have very few qualified teachers for the courses. But it looks great on a PR brochure.

So as #33 said above - for those that like the current status - all the best. If not, then there is nothing to save since those who like it are happy and I am happy for them. The rest need to move on and be happy too.

  • 38 Anonymous // Sep 19, 2007 at 3:49 pm

censorship and propaganda // Sep 18, 2007 at 7:07 pm

“The teachers need talking points? The new troika is Holden - Druin - and the PR person running the school! Who’s happy now?”

    Dear Hillel Faculty and Staff,

We write to make you aware of events that recently transpired at Hillel and to share the following points so you may verbally communicate these messages to school members if/when you find it necessary. Thank you for recognizing that this e-mail is exclusively for faculty and staff.

We uphold our promise to maintain open communication and to provide information as soon as it develops. We appreciate your effort to convey this information appropriately. Parents, and in turn the administration, rely on you as trusted partners.

These bullets outline the key messages to share when you communicate to anyone regarding this matter. If you have questions, please contact Adam Holden, Rabbi Druin or Ilana Lipson. Thank you for taking the time to demonstrate Hillel’s commitment to its children when you represent the institution and share anything school-related with the community.

Clearly teachers are being told to READ OFF THE SCRIPT OR ELSE!

Teachers cannot tell the truth about what is really going on inside the gates of H-ill-ELL

Certain confidential issues obviously have no business being discussed outside of the school.

But when your boss threatens you, intimidates you, and makes your work environment a living Hell, members of the community have a right to know.

When you teach 5 to 6 classes a day with no lunch break, the community deserves to know.

    And they will know.

No amount of trying to squelch freedom can stop people from exercising their constitutional right to exercise the First Amendment in the Good Ol’ U.S. of A.

Good luck to Rabbi Druin and all others who are trying to place a gag order on everyone.

Everyone already knows what your game is and the more you try to silence people, the more they’re going to talk.

    SHAME ON YOU!

  • 39 Anonymous // Sep 19, 2007 at 4:08 pm

Everyone knows but nothing seems to change. Lots of talk but it doesn’t seem to be helping anyone.

  • 40 Anonymous // Sep 19, 2007 at 4:11 pm

If the teachers allow themselves to be cowed into submission, ultimately no one can help them.

  • 41 ANONYMOUS // Sep 19, 2007 at 5:44 pm

Obviously they are not silenced, if so, how would this communication be published.

Teachers: Keep up the good work. Keep providing the trusted parents with the inside information. NO ONE has the right to tell you what to say and to whom you are permitted to speak. THIS IS A FREE COUNTRY. There is nothing that can be done about it. They will not find you.

To the administration: In these days of repentence between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, it is certainly in your best interest to ask for forgiveness and repent for your sins and wrong doing rather than continue to indimidate and threaten our teachers and staff. Blood is thicker than water. HILLEL IS A FAMILY. Our bonds will not be broken, no matter how hard you try.

The COMMUNITY IS WATCHING! There is a higher power than you. In the end, everyone gets theirs! Word to the wise, there are no secrets! We will find out and we will communicate, just as you do.

    SAVE HILLEL!

  • 42 Anonymous // Sep 19, 2007 at 7:22 pm

The community might be watching but they are not doing anything. Or don’t care. Or agree with what’s going on.

Please be careful before you stick your neck out. A job is just a job.

  • 43 Anonymous // Sep 19, 2007 at 10:38 pm

Teachers can indeed inform the community on the computer.

Politicians expose corrupt officials on blogs nowadays all the time. They do so anonymously.

No one but the site admin. could even begin to trace you and she ain’t giving you up.

The FBI is after Al Qaeda ..not Hillel teachers.

As much as Rabbi Druin would like you to think he can find you if you post, he cannot. Awwww. What a shame.

He can’t find you or me or anyone else posting here.

HE should watch his step if he has got any sechel at all.

  • 44 HaMavin Yavin // Sep 20, 2007 at 11:53 am

Once upon a time the Land was ruled by a Magician. The council clamored for a ruler like the other kingdoms and so the consul deposed the Magician and a King was brought down from a far away country. Without the King to micro-manage, the far away country suffered, for the King did not know how to delegate. The King was jealous of the other royalty in the Land and therefore, the King did not get along with a beloved Prince. The King soon compelled the Prince to flee the Land and the Prince was never seen again. The Prince’s adviser was made Prince, but things were not the same.

Meanwhile, an ineffectual Mayor was banished from the Land by the Council. The King unbanished her and made her vice-Governor. The King overworked the Governor and the Governor died and made the former Mayor a Governor and declared that she was now the Princess (As the King tricked the consul into believing that she was royalty.) At one time the ruler of a neighboring Kingdom began to entice the citizenry of the Land to relocate to his kingdom. The King did not mind and even made a deal with this other ruler: the most talented citizens could leave the Land and were not encouraged to stay… and only those who paid high taxes were encouraged to remain in the Land. Still, many stayed because they loved the Land.

One time there smoke but no decipherable fire. The smoke became thicker and thicker until the King felt he should leave for fear he might burn… yet the King and others claimed there was no fire. The King left never to be heard of again.

The once ineffectual Mayor proved to be an ineffectual Princess who had hired a staff of even more ineffectual advisers.

The Land floundered and the Council tried to run the Land but could not. They elected a series of bumbling governors and caretaker governments. The crops wilted and many fled. The taxes collected could no longer support the Land.

One day the Doctor of Fakery came. He said “this is the most beautiful place in the world.” The Council made the Doctor of Fakery the new monarch. The Critics said “Look at the wilted crops. Where are the taxes? Look at the starving citizens. How can this be beautiful?” The Doctor of Fakery responded with his first official act as monarch. His first act was to blow up the dam protecting the Land from a nearby lake. The water flooded into the Land and there was not much left above water. The Doctor said “What crops? There are no crops. We live on a lake.”

  • 45 Anonymous // Sep 20, 2007 at 4:07 pm

    Great allegory.

    Help us interpret it.

    The Mayor/Princess is JD.

The Doctor of Fakery is quite obvious.

    Who are the other players?

  • 46 Anonymous // Sep 20, 2007 at 4:14 pm

The King = Marshall Baltuch ?

    Kiss the ring,

  • 47 Anonymous // Sep 20, 2007 at 5:17 pm

    Will this help the issues?

  • 48 Anonymous // Sep 20, 2007 at 5:46 pm

Well the issues are so depressing. Levity is good once in a while.

    Who are the others??????

  • 51 Anonymous // Sep 20, 2007 at 7:55 pm

In that case: the Mayor/Princess is Bev Buncher
    The Governor is Dr. Levy
The Council is the board of Directors
    Is the Prince Rabbi Raab???

  • 52 Aaron // Sep 20, 2007 at 8:01 pm

I thought the prince was Rabbi Bald and the Magician was Rabbi Raab.

  • 54 Anonymous // Sep 20, 2007 at 9:00 pm

I thought we are trying to SAVE HILLEL.

  • 55 Anonymous // Sep 20, 2007 at 10:24 pm

Please, during this period of repentence, let us not cloud the issues. We are concerned with the present. We are unable to change the past. We must move forward and worry about what we currently face.

We must help those who are crying out for our assistance - the teachers. Our children need them. They are the lifeblood of our school.

As we reflect during these days of awe, may G-d grant us the fortitude to endure, the wisdom to achieve, and peace for all.

We must continue to do all we can to SAVE HILLEL!

  • 56 Jeremiah // Sep 20, 2007 at 11:22 pm

    Agreed.
    Reflection shows the path,
    who is up for it?

  • 57 Anonymous // Sep 20, 2007 at 11:55 pm

Is the path like the yellow brick road?

  • 58 Anonymous // Sep 21, 2007 at 3:52 pm

“We are concerned with the present. We are unable to change the past. ”

The issue is not about trying to CHANGE the past.

HaMavin Yavin is pointing out what George Orwell warns us of in 1984.

“He who controls the past controls the future.”

By effectively wiping out all remnants of the past “What crops? Hillel is on a lake” Mr. Holden or the Doctor of Fakery has seized control of the future.

That is taking place at this most as we speak.

That is very much in the present.

    Think people! Think!

    The allegory is instructive.

It’s trying to point out in a symbolic way what is happening now either as a warning or a lament or both.

At this point, however, most people have resigned themselves to the fact that the masses now all agree that Hillel is on a lake. Oy.

“The Old Hillel is dead. Long live the New Hillel.”

This is hard for me to say (for obvious reasons) but I think we have to accept that we’re never going to get back what we once had.

However, what we can do is help RE-DEFINE the New Hillel by making our voices loud and clear.

Our first priority should be to make sure that this New Hillel has a safe and productive working environment for its faculty.

  • 62 Jeremiah // Sep 23, 2007 at 1:44 pm

    True.

  • 63 Anonymous // Sep 23, 2007 at 2:23 pm

I don’t see why we need to have any priorities with the new Hillel. Let the people who want it take care of it. We should stick our nose out of it.

  • 64 Jeremiah // Sep 23, 2007 at 2:38 pm

The problem goes back to the way teachers and staff were treated by the new administration: rotten.

Even on ratemyteacher.com someone has mentioned it.

  • 65 Anonymous // Sep 23, 2007 at 4:04 pm

You mean the way several teachers “are” still being treated. Many people still care about the teachers who have not given up on Hillel students and are still working there trying to make a difference. It’s for them and the students that this blog continues to exist. How much it helps, no one can say, but it is a testament.

Also, one cannot blame the alumni for still caring and finding it difficult to come to terms with the fact that their alma mater no longer exists. They can’t help but want to shape the vision so that future Hillel students will be afforded with the same foundation that they were given. I think that’s quite noble of them.

Institutions experience cyclical pendulum swings just like administrations in the Oval office.

Who’s to say that down the road there can’t be substantive change?

  • 66 Anonymous // Sep 23, 2007 at 4:05 pm

Ratemyteacher.com is the perfect way to rate the likes of Rabbi Michael Druin and Mr. Adam Holden.

I suggest you go there now.

The Alumni can’t really do anything unless they send their children to the school. Writing on the blog from NYC really doesn’t do much.

They are very well meaning but it really won’t help the few teachers with scheduling issues.

    FYI-

Dr. Holden told the teachers that they are not allowed to have a second job. The teachers are not allowed to help educate any other students. They had to sign a paper that they will not and don’t work a 2nd job. In todays world not everybody has so much income to survive with out help. Some of our teachers tutor. And Dr. Holden said that they are not allowed to. Why is it his business after school hours if our teachers tutor kids. Aftr business hours is after businesses hours. Our teachers do not make enough.

No one can forbid someone to hold other jobs on their own time. That document has no credence and would not be defensible in court.

Many of the teachers tutor - they can consider it a hobby.

No one can prohibit you from doing something in your own time.

It’s another sign that the teachers should see - for whatever the reason - the school is making life tough for the teachers and they want everyone to leave.

I think everyone should at least consider it.

just an FYI: some teachers have it great this year because they know that something will hit this website if they are treated horribly.

others are not as Fortunate. The administration hopes that those teachers will just leave instead. they wont address the issues.

weve said it before And we’ll say it again: get a clue, Rabbi Druin. treat these teachers with respect and they;’ll do the same to you. maybe this website will be silent after all.

Dont walk in front of me I may not follow
Dont walk behind me I may not lead
Just walk beside me and be my friend
and together we will walk in the way of Hashem

sadly, i then think about the Zimbardo Prison experiment and realize that this is an allegory htat is hard to come by since the people in power are using it to their fullest potential. www.prisonexp.org

To #70: Please confirm whether Hillel’s teachers were forbidden to tutor only Hillel students or did they have to sign that they wouldnt take any outside job? If it is the former, many schools forbid teachers from tutoring their students as it could lead to a real conflict of interest. If it is the latter, I dont see how it is enforceable as these teachers signed contracts last year. To add this clause after the fact would seem to be illegal. I am not an attorney but someone should ask an employment attorney about this. What would happen if the teacher refused to sign? They are under contract.
    Please clarify.

  • 75 Anonymous // Sep 24, 2007 at 2:33 pm

Maybe the school wants some of the teachers to leave. Maybe that’s why they are making the conditions tough. If that’s the case, the Administration won’t address the issues since they are want those issues there.

As far as any contract, before saying anything is illegal, please be sure there is nothing in the contract that says there can’t be any addendum’s added. If it turns out to be illegal, then the teachers need to spend the time and money to fight it.

  • 76 No Longer A Teacher // Sep 24, 2007 at 7:19 pm

I am shocked and to hear that teachers are not allowed to tutor outside of school.

Tutoring one’s own students represents a conflict of interest. Tutoring, in general, does not.

Schools across the nation allow their teachers to tutor.

Quite frankly, many teachers cannot survive without the income of second jobs.

Many teachers work in stores and have real esate licenses too.

IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, NO ONE CAN FORBID YOU FROM HOLDING DOWN 2 JOBS.

(Holding Down 2 Jobs is unfortunately the American Way –people need to survive–read “Nickel and Dimed” by Barbara Ehrenreich)

This blog continues to describe one moral outrage after another.

Every time I think I can’t hear anything worse, some new tidbit is leaked out that absolutely astounds me.

I am so disgusted that the board is okay with all of this or is tacitly allowing this type of unethical behavior to continue.

Shame on them all. G-d have mercy on their souls.

    HAIL TO THE DICTATOR!

  • 77 Anonymous // Sep 24, 2007 at 10:12 pm

Has anyone confirmed that this is true? Or is it a misunderstanding?

  • 78 Anonymous // Sep 25, 2007 at 5:00 pm

It would seem to me that if Mr. Holden chooses to terminate someone because they hold a job outside of school, there might be grounds for a lawsuit.

I’m not an attorney, however, and Mr. Holden is ten steps ahead of all of us as Parent-from- Kansas warned, so that issue would need investigating , if in fact, he has made teachers sign away this right.

  • 79 Anonymous // Sep 25, 2007 at 6:07 pm

Or no one paid attention to the small print.

  • 80 Anonymous // Sep 25, 2007 at 6:52 pm

    What choice was anyone given?

  • 81 Anonymous // Sep 25, 2007 at 7:29 pm

    The choice not to sign

  • 82 jeremiah // Sep 27, 2007 at 7:58 pm

sometimes not even something not to sign…

  • 83 Previous staff member // Oct 2, 2007 at 3:16 pm

    another FYI

Dr. Holden is teaching a college class. And grading class assisgnments during the Hillel time that he is supposed to be dealing with Hillel matters….hmm working two jobs….Why is it ok for him and nobody else…..

  • 84 Anonymous // Oct 2, 2007 at 5:48 pm

Does the College know he’s not a “Dr”?

  • 85 Anonymous // Oct 2, 2007 at 6:55 pm

Maybe he’s going back for a “real” degree. Finally.

  • 86 jeremiah // Oct 2, 2007 at 7:16 pm

    hmmmm…

  • 87 Anonymous // Oct 2, 2007 at 9:32 pm

Do you have to critisize everything the school does???? Leave them alone, what do you expect from a newspaper.

  • 88 Anonymous // Oct 3, 2007 at 10:43 am

    Leave the school alone? Why?

  • 89 orangeaide // Oct 3, 2007 at 8:41 pm

Fine #87, as soon as they rehire everybody they dumped like garbage and apologize for behaving like the Sopranos and then make up for lost wages…and then crawl on their knees for forgiveness and mean it.

  • 90 Anonymous // Oct 3, 2007 at 9:35 pm

    Yeah…why??

  • 91 Anonymous // Oct 3, 2007 at 9:40 pm

Why is Mr. Holden allowed to hold two jobs when his staff is forbidden to…are we sure his staff is forbidden to …I’m no sure this is the case. I believe several teachers do indeed have second jobs and no one is stopping them — for now.

What college in its right mind would employ Holden?

Do tell, so we can stay far away or perhaps let them know that they’ve hired an academic fraud.

A real university might care more about academic integrity than Hillel does..but then again, this is Florida. Welcome to the Banana Republic.

  • 92 jeremiah // Oct 3, 2007 at 10:20 pm

Can teachers even afford the Banana Republic??????

  • 93 juno // Oct 3, 2007 at 10:21 pm

    What’s that?

  • 94 carrot top // Oct 3, 2007 at 10:25 pm

Oh, the Banana Republic is expensive!

    http://www.bananarepublic.com/

    Just look at the prices!

  • 95 Anonymous // Oct 4, 2007 at 4:38 pm

I wasn’t referring to the store.

  • 96 Anonymous // Oct 5, 2007 at 9:26 am

I know many teachers who tutor and have second jobs. I dont know where these accusations are coming from.

  • 97 Anonymous // Oct 6, 2007 at 9:44 pm

The teachers I know also have second jobs. I have not heard of anyone trying to stop them. I am not aware of how the contract reads.

  • 98 Anonymous // Oct 7, 2007 at 12:12 am

Maybe it’s much ado about nothing.
